This is "Nilla" an approximately 4 month old female Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever that is needing a foster or ideally a forever home. This poor girl has had quite a time of it in her young life already, and I would love to see her travelling days end forever. She was found by a lady who kept her for a short time but was unable to hold on to her because her dogs did not care for this bigger guest, and the lady had a shoulder surgery that made it impossible to keep herShe was then fostered graciously by a young couple for about a month, but could not give her much attention due to their busy schedules, but kept her until another couple wanted her "for keeps". The new home did not work out for her either, as they misrepresented what they were going to do with her, the couple were truck drivers and wanted a dog to take with them on the road, which they are on the majority of the time. The couple had her about two weeks and called me saying she just did not like being on the truck, so I am taking her in at the moment, but am unable to do so for very long at all, though I would keep her myself if I could. She is a very friendly dog with people, a little reserved when she first meets them though. She is very friendly with other dogs, do not know how she would do with cats though. Very playful, and ideally would have access to a yard where she can burn-off some energy as the breed is pretty active. Please pass the word on to friends that might be interested in this hard to find, but great breed of dog. She should get to about 35-45 lbs as an adult, so will be mid-sized. Has not been around them, but guessing she won't be good if you have ducks or chickens, just in the breeds nature to bring them to ya and not sure what condition they would be in if she did!!!

Permalink Reply by Bonnie McCririe Hale on August 2, 2012 at 3:38pm Hmmm....I'm considering looking for a new dog to train for my pet search and rescue business www.facebook.com/lost.pet.specialist and I've often wondered if a "Toller" could do the work. I love the size, energy, and work ethic of this breed. Never had one but got to know them when I was heavily involved in dog agility. I would need to do a little more research into the suitability of Tollers for scent work, of course, and test her on cats if possible because I do have a house cat. No kids, decent size yard, lots of walks, positive training, top notch vet care and diet. LMK if she's still available and we can talk.

Permalink Reply by Robert Lucian on August 11, 2012 at 10:18pm Nilla has a good forever home, and even better...WITH A POOL!!!! This was a very difficult dog to say bye to, but I couldn't keep her in current circumstances. I know she will be happy where she is at though, and that is precisely why we do this stuff, right?!
