I'm very curious to know your answers to this one. I picked up a snake 2 weeks ago that I found slithering around in our studio. He bit me! Luckily he had tiny teeth and wasn't poisonous.

Permalink Reply by Louis Pollaro on October 22, 2011 at 3:12pm I wouldn't be able to feed a snake live mice either!
Permalink Reply by Dawn Ross on October 18, 2011 at 4:38pm No. I think snakes make boring pets. I feel the same way about fish, turtles, hamsters and other rodent-like pets.
Permalink Reply by Randel B. Smith on October 18, 2011 at 4:55pm I'm surprised the studio cats didn't make short work of Mr. Snake! Or did they help find it?
There have been so many large constrictors lost or turned loose in our native American environment that I'm against importing the things anymore; probably too late. I mean, when they end up swallowing Florida alligators. But some people like cold, steely eyed pets . . .

Permalink Reply by Gregory Menta on October 18, 2011 at 5:58pm Snakes have no personality. Not really a companion in my book. They only need you to feed them and they will bite you if they get hungry enough. Not my ideal of a companion at all...

Permalink Reply by Cindy Milton on October 18, 2011 at 9:24pm To me snakes are a wild animal and are probably much more content in an environment that fits their needs, i.e., like a forest, a dessert, a jungle, etc. So, I can't envision a reason to capture snakes only then to place them one in some type of glass aquarium to watch and feed mice to for a daily routine. Who does that please? Somehow, I think I'd be sad for the snake and also worry that it might get out and cause harm to family or friends. And it does not seem like it would be a real happy state for either the snake or the owners, or a very reasonable thing to do. I do think it's okay for animal scientists to go to the various environments of snakes and to study them. And I think it's somehow necessary for medical reasons to capture snakes and to make anti-venoms to save lives, but I hope somehow they would treat these snakes humanely in the process of our needs. To me snakes are like a lot of other wild animals you see in zoos or at the circus. They have been captured and placed there for us to see, but they're not particularly happy about it. We need to strike a good balance with nature and provide them good treatment. However, I'd certainly be curious to hear how others feel about this. I must admit I've never owned a snake.
Oh yes, of course. I love their cute little fangs and the way they slither around and eat little mice. I love snakes! Not!

Permalink Reply by Jana Arnold on October 20, 2011 at 12:08am I think snakes are beautiful animals. I have no inborn fear of them at all. I was at the Fort Worth Zoo a few years ago and a woman was walking around with a huge albino boa constrictor draped around her body. I was the first one to ask if I could touch it. Everyone else was repelled. I went up and rubbed my hand over it's beautiful yellowish-smooth body. It felt like silk. I was amazed that God created such a fabulous creature. I thought about how sad it was that people would make boots and handbags or belts from their skins. After I touched the snake, everyone else did too.
Now... spiders.. they do scare me.
