A small Iowa town has forced a retired Chicago cop and Vietnam veteran to part with the service dog who was helping him cope with a profound stroke that left him with no feeling on the right half of his body.
The dog’s crime? He is a pit-bull mix. It seems Aurelia — a town whose motto is “savor the sweet life” — banned the breed in 2008 after a pit bull bit a meter reader.
He and his wife, Peggy, recently moved to her hometown of 1,100 people to be closer to his ailing…

Louis Pollaro said… Deb, I'm very sorry and sad to hear about your loss of Molson. I know he was part of your family. Molson was lucky to have had such a wonderful pack leader during his life. I see so many dogs that are abandoned and abused - when a dog gets to have such a good home, he is truly blessed and so are we. All I can say is that I understand how you feel.
Robert Lucian said… Awesome pic, one of my favorite dogs ever was a Harlequin Dane that I had, I miss him greatly. It amazes me how much a Dane will intimidate people that see them without knowing them, but there is not a more gentle giant among the breeds than the Great Dane. (Just gotta watch out for the tail!)
