GROOMING TIP #10 FOR THE DO-IT-YOURSELF TYPE: SHEDDING FOR MEDIUM HAIRED DOGS

A lot of prospective dog owners, when considering the breed they choose, assume that the longer the hair, the more shedding they will have in the house and on the furniture.  Actually among the heaviest shedders are the medium haired, double coated dogs such as Siberian Huskies, German Shepherds, Welsh Corgies, etc.  While the…See More

Grooming Tip #9 For the Do-It-Youself Type: Peanut Butter

Yes, Peanut Butter... no, I haven't lost my mind!  There are actually several things you can use peanut butter for while grooming your dog to make some things go a little smoother and get you out of a jam.

I have seen many things get into a dog's hair, including tar, glue, gum, stickers, and in one case a whole…

Thanks for the feedback. I like to do things as well as I can.  I've read and questioned vets to the "inth" degree.  I had to do this after failing a dog I had as a teenager. She haunts me. I decided it would never happen again. I've learned to nurse various dogs thru many physical conditions and do not want others to suffer if I can intervene. I try to do all I can physically handle. I always thought that if I were an animal, I'd be a dog (but I would want to live with someone like me).

Thank you for welcoming me (and my family) into your community!!

I had the most wonderful and touching experience when I met Chewy today. Diane was a warm, informative, patient person. (Just who I needed to meet being that I will be a first-time pet owner. Other than taking care of live fish, I have a lot to learn about dogs. So excited I couldn't hardly sleep last night. It felt like an interview of some type.

Long story short: Chewy is so cuddly and lively! He seems to be a perfect fit for our family. Can't wait to get him home and spoil him a little bit. Yes, I said spoil--he soooo needs it.

Robert, would there be any possibility for you to work your magic on Chewbacca ("Chewy") who I am fostering?  I think being groomed would help him feel better, as well as look better.  Please advise.  Thanks, Diane Geer

Thanks so much for helping me look for her. I haven't had any luck finding her yet. I'm not giving up on her though! Unfortunately, she's not the only dog I've had go missing out here. We didn't live here a month and our German Shorthaired Pointer went missing. It was hunting season, so we think somebody picked her up. She got out of our fenced area.

Robert, thank you for your kind comments.  I'm far from an expert on cats, but I do enjoy working with them and have come to understand them better.  I still have a lot to learn.  Thank YOU for sharing your marvelous ability to transform dogs through your grooming talents.

Hello Robert~~  I've found that most people think greyhounds must be a 'hyper' breed.   But it's quite the contrary~~~they're described as a '40 mph couch potato'~~which is true!

I have a beagle, Molly, and  a shi-tzhu, Jake.  We got Molly 8 years ago from a friend that begged for us to take her.  He had 3 toddlers and 1 infant plus Molly!  They laugh when we tell them she's the best dog ever.  Noisy sometimes but such a sweet nature.  We were at the Canton trade days and had stopped for lunch. My husband was looking at some tools and there in a packnplay was Jake.  The rest is history. My husband never bought the tools but I came home with Jake.  I think I saved him from a puppy mill life.  I had a cat, Beavis, for 18 years and had to put her down this summer.  Molly respected Beavis while Jake found her to be a curiousity.

Thank you for the welcome! My daughter decided to bring home the snake, its a small boa. One of the chihuahuas is also hers although I end up taking care of them in the end, but that is okay.
